Benefit Applicable terms (summary) Natural Death Accidental Death The Basic Needs Benefit (being both the core and the loyalty benefit) will be paid in the form of monthly Vouchers payable for a period of 6 (six) consecutive months, which can be used at selected retailers as set out in the Thari ya Baruti Basic Needs Benefit Policy. The monthly Vouchers may not be redeemed for cash and may only be used for the payment of goods at the retailers. When will We pay: Core Basic Needs Benefit The Insured Events for purposes of the Thari ya Baruti Basic Needs Benefit Policy is Your or a Dependent Child's death, Your or a Dependent Child's Permanent Disablement or when You suffer a Dread Disease. A Claim for the core Basic Needs Benefit will be paid when any of these Insured Events occur and in the event that – i) a Claim for a Funeral Benefit is approved in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy (subject to all terms and conditions and limitations as set out in the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy); ii) a Claim for a Personal Accident Benefit to the value of R27 000 (being the highest pay-out value, as may be amended) is approved in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy (subject to all terms and conditions and limitations as set out in the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy); and iii) a Claim for a Dread Disease Benefit is approved in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy (subject to all terms and conditions and limitations as set out in the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy). Cover in respect of a Dependent Child of Basic Needs Existing Members in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Basic Needs Benefit Policy will incept on 1 April 2024 (being the Inception Date). When will We pay: loyalty Thari ya Baruti Basic Needs Benefit Policy If a Claim for a core Basic Needs Benefit becomes payable, an additional loyalty Basic Needs Benefit may become payable by considering the consistency of the Premium payment history in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy and the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy. What is the Waiting Period No Waiting Period is applied. However note that a Claim for a Basic Needs Benefit will only be approved if a Claim for Funeral Benefits, Personal Accident Benefits or Dread Disease Benefits has been approved. Therefore, the Waiting Periods in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy and the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy will indirectly affect the payment of the Basic Needs Benefit. Please refer to the Waiting Periods under the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy and the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy. When will We not pay • When a Claim for Funeral Benefits in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy has not been approved. • When a Claim for Personal Accident Benefits in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy has not been approved. • When a Claim for Dread Disease Benefits in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy has not been approved. This means that the exclusions and limitations in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy and the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy will indirectly affect the payment of the Basic Needs Benefit. Please refer to the exclusions and limitations under the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy and the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy. Additionally, the following limitations are applicable: • Shoprite Checkers Vouchers: o Vouchers may be redeemed at any Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper or Usave stores nationwide; o The Vouchers are not redeemable for cash, but may be transferred to another person if so elected by You or a Beneficiary. o Vouchers can only be redeemed in one transaction and that transaction total must be greater than or equal to the value of the Voucher. o Lost or stolen Vouchers will not be replaced or refunded. o Vouchers are valid for a period of three years from the date of issue. • Pick n Pay Vouchers: o Vouchers may be redeemed at any Pick n Pay store nationwide. o The Vouchers are not redeemable for cash, but may be transferred to another person if so elected by You or a Beneficiary. o Lost or stolen Vouchers will not be replaced or refunded. o Vouchers are valid for a period of three years from date of issue. When will Your cover cease • The Contact is cancelled; • You cease to be a Member of the Trust; • When You die; or • The Trust fails to pay the Premiums as a result of Your failure, as a Member to pay Your Membership Contribution, subject at all times to the Forgiveness Rules. Who can claim • You in the event of a Permanent Disability or a Dread Disease; or • Your Nominated Beneficiary in the event of Your Death. In terms of the Thari ya Baruti Basic Needs Benefit Policy, Your Nominated Beneficiary may also nominate a secondary beneficiary to receive the Vouchers if the Nominated Beneficiary dies before payment of all 6 Vouchers. Documents required • BNBCN Form. • The same Claim Documents prescribed in terms of the Thari ya Baruti Funeral Policy and the Thari ya Baruti Dread Disease and Personal Accident Policy. • You do not have to submit the Claims Document in duplicate and consent to the same documents being used for the Thari ya Baruti Basic Needs Benefit Policy.
